Team sports are an excellent way of keeping fit and sticking to a regime of being healthy and enjoying exercise.
For most people, exercising with a friend is a great way to make sure you go back again and again, especially if you play for a team which is in a league and you compete regularly.
Team sports encourage all sorts of life skills, as well as keeping fit:
- Communication skills
- Working as part of a team
- Social skills and getting to know people of all ages and backgrounds
In hockey, like most team ball sports, working as a team and communicating is a crucial part of success, as is fitness. A 35-minute each way game, played at a fast pace, needs a certain level of fitness. However, training and warming up and then playing with friends makes fitness easier to achieve and stick to.
Hockey is now played on astro turf and not grass like at school! If you’re interested in going along and trying it out, check out England Hockey’s website where you’ll find details of teams near you.
