Sponsorship success for Scottish Powerlifting Star

A local man is hoping to power his way to the title of world champion after signing a sponsorship deal with one of the market leading supplement brands.

Michael Ferguson, 22, from Glasgow, has signed a deal with online based fitness and nutrition experts Deluxe Nutrition, who will support him over the next year as he trains and prepares for the World Powerlifting Championships in South Africa in June.

Michael first got into the sport of powerlifting at Aberdeen University in 2009 and has put hours into training and becoming one of the UK’s leading competitors.

On securing the deal with Deluxe Nutrition, Michael commented: “This sponsorship deal is the perfect way to end what has been a fantastic year for me, after coming in 2nd place at the Great British Powerlifting Championships earlier this year. I am looking forward to promoting the Deluxe brand within my sport and at the World Championships in 2014. I really feel like I am in a position to challenge the top 5 in the world and I’ll be working hard until June to ensure I’m in peak condition.”

Matt Hickman, owner of Deluxe Nutrition added: “Michael is an up and coming talent in a sport which takes discipline and commitment to looking after your body. We are delighted to have the opportunity to support a home grown competitor at the world championships in South Africa and we’ll be rooting for him to do well. We’re looking forward to working with him in 2014.”

As well as his placing at the British championships, in 2013 Michael was selected to represent Scotland in the Great British Powerlifting Federation 4 nations championships and broke both Scottish and British Senior records as a Junior with a 211kg Squat, 242.5kg Deadlift and 563.5kg Total at 74kg bodyweight.

Deluxe Nutrition was set up by Ex-triathlete Matt Hickman in October 2010. Matt started experimenting with different energy supplements in his 20s to work out which would enhance his stamina and give the best results. But when he quit competing in triathlons 10 years ago, he realised there was a gap in the market for a product which could be tailored to meet the needs of men and women in different sports.

Deluxe Nutrition sell online a range of different supplements and nutrition shakes for energy boosting, muscle building, recovery and health.

And the business is going from strength to strength, with turnover figures showing a 52% increase from year one to year two, and projections of a further increase of 42% from 2012 to 2013.

The company stocks everything from protein shakes, and creatine powder to endurance composites like caffeine supplements and glucose.
